Of the many chapters in the International Antique and Classic Boat
Society, the Adirondack Chapter is one of the most active. Over 280
members, owning and using in excess of 200 boats of various age,
classification, and state of restoration, have the opportunity to participa te in a wide variety of
boating-related activities throughout the year. These activities are
created and run by a dedicated group of volunteers who serve on the
Board of Directors as well as a number of committees devoted to workshops,
boat shows, special events, annual dinner meetings, and the Ship's Store.
Two or three workshops are conducted each year at several different
locations. Each workshop is dedicated to topics of specific interest to
Chapter members, such as engine installation, refinishing techniques, boat
surveys, carburetor rebuilding etc.
Two boat shows run by the Chapter each year attract an increasing number of
visitors, one of which occur in the Fulton Chain of Lakes at Old Forge in
the Adirondacks and are held in July. The
second show is in August in Lake
George at the town docks on the lake. Special
events, such as the Chapter's participation in a Poker Run on Lake
George and planned cruises at other locations provide the
chance for members to enjoy their boats informally in the company of fellow
enthusiasts.
A ship's store provides access to unique items for sale to members as well
as to the general public at boat shows. A newsletter, THE FOURTH
WATCH, is published quarterly and keeps members up-to-date on
Chapter activities. Members in the boat restoration profession
are generous in sharing their knowledge with articles. A classified
section is available free to members and for a nominal fee to
non-members to advertise boats for sale as well as to look for rare
pieces needed in the restoration process of a vintage boat.
The year culminates with an informal annual dinner meeting held in
November, where members can reminisce about past season's boating activities, trade
stories, and look forward to plans for the following season.
You are cordially invited to join out chapter by filling out and sending
this application. Keep in
mind that you need NOT own a boat to join -- your interest in the
fascinating and enjoyable world of vintage boats and boating will
suffice! We hope to add your name to our WELCOME ABOARD
roster in the near future.
